2 Years Today

Today my baby turns 2.

Wow. Birthdays do this to me – make me nostalgic. Particularly my children’s. I blink. They grow 4 inches. And call me mom instead of mama. How does that happen?

At 2 years I now see the beginnings of the little girl she is becoming. Strong willed, clever and oh SO FUNNY. She is a personality of extremes. Always challenging me and teaching me. Crazy how much you can learn from these little ones. Crazy and humbling at the same time.

As with her older brother, I decided to make a portrait session with them on their birthdays an annual tradition. So for hers, I made her dress. Only my 2nd dress to date. So no closeups of all the little flaws :)

I’m hoping to make her birthday dress every year. But we’ll see. She may fight me on that one in another year or two. I would be surprised if she didn’t :) She has her own ideas on what she wants to do and how she wants to do it already at 2. This session was pretty much just me providing her with a couple of balloons, flowers and a new bear. She ignored the balloons, clung to her bear and massacred the flowers one by one. Ah yes. That’s my girl.

We had her party yesterday. She wore her new dress. Thank God I did her portraits before the party. It was wonderful to watch her watch us showering her with gifts, cake and attention all so curiously. I will share more of her party in another post. Today we are celebrating her with just the family.

Happy Birthday my beautiful baby. I love you.

Project 52 – Reflection

By Adel | Filed in Photography

Love this theme. Wish I had more time this week to try all the ideas I wanted. It was my favorite thing I learned in the Shooting 201 Class I took earlier this year.

Here’s my take on Reflection. Taken outside the De Young Museum in San Francisco.

I’m off to celebrate a special birthday! Happy Weekend!

I’ve been a little MIA on my blog this week. Well it’s been a little bit of a crazy one. I’ve got a very special birthday I’ve been prepping for that’s kept my hands full. And I also had an exciting little opportunity fall into my lap recently.

Earlier this week, I took my favorite little guy to our favorite place in the city for something other than a baseball game.

And we got to meet a couple of our favorite SF Giants players – Buster Posey and Ryan Vogelsong!

Wanna know details? Read more about it here at Hapama.com! :)

Mothers Day Scenes

By Adel | Filed in Family

I hope all you moms out there had a great day yesterday. I’m pretty exhausted from all the fun activities we had going on both Saturday and Sunday. This will just be a picture share and mostly wordless :)

I asked for dinner instead of brunch this year so we went to the delicious Wo Hing General Store in the Mission. SO SO YUMMY!

The next morning we had our routine coffee and brunch in the neighborhood. They allow me to dress them less and less these days. *sigh*

Oh well, at least they were getting along fabulously this morning. That in itself is a priceless gift.

I spent the rest of the afternoon at a spa with a couple of other moms and then dined on excellent Indian food at Dosa!

It was a fabulous weekend!

Project 52 – Office Supplies

By Adel | Filed in Photography

I’m not going to lie, when I first read what this week’s theme was, I thought it was a little uninspiring. But I changed my mind after I decided that instead of just taking a cool shot of something on my desk, I would take Jack-Jack on a mini-shoot at Office Depot! Ha! Boy did we have fun! :)

Here’s the shot I’m submitting.

Who knew that office supplies were so interesting to photograph with all it’s colors, repetitions and lines? I let Jack-Jack play with the random items on the shelf, stack them on the floor and push the carts. She had a blast. The sales people were pretty confused by us since they found me on all fours trying to get a shot at one point ;)

I felt bad we left without buying anything, but we did clean up the mess we made before leaving.

What started of as an unenthusiastic theme for me, turned out to be one of my favorites for the year so far!

Field Of Flowers

By Adel | Filed in Photography

One of the nice things about having a good friend who is also a mommy photographer is that she shares great locations for shoots! My friend Rachel had taken her daughter to this pretty field of flowers for a photo op one day and suggested I take my Jack-Jack and do the same. She’s awesome. And knows me well!

One day after drop-off, I did as she suggested :)

The sun had just risen so the pretty flowers were still closed. But they were pretty nevertheless.

I love that the shots give you the impression that we are in a wide open field outside the city with wild flowers all around us.

In truth? We’re on the front lawn of the San Francisco City College. The street with the morning traffic zooming by and students walking into class is literally 5 feet behind me! :)

All it takes is some clever composition, tight shots and an 85mm lens! ;)

Spring Fest!

By Adel | Filed in Family

Our school held its annual Spring Fest on Sunday! Boy was it a beautiful day! Not so great for pictures though but super warm and sunny!

I had volunteered to set up 2 hours before they started and stayed for almost the entire time. That meant I was 1, crazy exhausted by the time we got home, 2, more than a little sun burnt, and 3, barely took any pictures. It was nice to just run around with family and friends playing games and enjoying the gorgeous day!

I made a killing on the silent auction and won 4 items I bid on. One of them being Lightroom 4! Score! :)

Rex had a blast running from game booth to game booth, often playing each game like 5 times!

The littlest tired pretty quick and napped for the last hour or so we were there. I don’t blame her.

What a fun day it was for our little family. But yeah bedtime was like 7pm. For everyone. :)

Giant Date With A Little Guy

By Adel | Filed in Family

Of the many things I love about being his mom, this ranks high on that list. If not tops it. There are few things that bring me more joy than spending a few hours of the day with my son at AT&T Park watching our San Francisco Giants.

It was a muggy, wet afternoon at the yard that day. I stole him out of school for our date. Our seats were pretty awesome. Lower lever inside first base and just under the overhang so they were dry but we still got plenty of light! And an excellent view of our boys in orange.

The game itself was one of frustration. Game 3 of our series with the Marlins. The Marlins had won the first two so we were trying to prevent the sweep. Tried and failed. Ugh. So frustrating.

It’s really hard to watch our anemic, injury-riddled offense right now. But as always, we watch. And wait. And hope. He’s an old pro this one. He’s been doing this with his mama (and sometimes daddy) since he was 3 months.

As great as he is about sitting through the game even though he doesn’t completely understand the little nuances of it all, he does get pretty antsy at the end. So we get up and wander around right about the 8th inning.

And after a while we head out early before the last out to catch our train. Yes he got a new ball today. I always let him pick up a little something for himself when we come to the game.

We almost always Bart and Muni it to and from the games. I love the simpleness and the routine of it all that we associate with many happy hours spent at the yard. Even the rides home. I hope he cherishes these memories when he gets older of these outings to the park to watch our Giants play as much as I do one day.

My little Giant. He grows bigger and bigger too fast these days. But I’m happy he still loves going to the game with his mama!

Project 52 – Symmetry

By Adel | Filed in Photography

Yeah this week’s theme was not that easy for me. I don’t see symmetry real well. Looking for it all week all around me definitely helped me train my eye to see it more. I’ve noticed that about all the themes we’ve done. It’s a great exercise in creativity that I’ve found I carry out even after the week for a particular theme is over.

Here’s my take on symmetry. It was taken inside AT&T Park when Rex and I went on our date! :) He was embarrassed to do it with so many people walking around looking at him but I promised him a baseball for it.

And that is how I got my shot.

Love him.

I’ve been busy reorganizing my portfolio site the past few days. It’s sorely in need of some more cute faces that are NOT my children! :) I can be accused of having mommy goggles I know!

I’ve posted some shots from a birthday party I did recently on that blog. I’ve decided to post non-personal photos there. Click on the picture of the pretty birthday girl below if you’d like to take a peek.

I decided to donate a family photo session to my son’s school’s biggest fun raiser of the year – Spring Fest! It is this Sunday May 6 from 11am to 3pm.  *gulp* I’m a little nervous, but hey it’ll be great to have more cute faces for my portfolio as well as gain more experience. I’m falling in love with photographing families for sure.

I’d love it if you would stop by! If you live in the San Francisco area that is. Come enjoy great food, entertainment, games and bid on the auctions. There are great prizes like a 4 Pass to Disneyland, many gift certificates to top-notch restaurants and stores in the city and of course a photo session with ME! :D

Here is the link with more info.

I also did something I’ve never done before. I entered my kids’ photo in a little contest! It’s no big deal really but I find it funny that after 6.5 years I’ve finally jumped on the mommy bandwagon and submitted a photo of my children to a contest just because I think they are the best looking kids EVER! Ha. Nope no other mom thinks that way. This was the photo I submitted. I’m sure you’re not tired of seeing it right? :)

Anyway, if you are on Facebook, I would so love your vote! It would totally make my Mothers Day!! :) Click on the link below to take you to the photo to vote. You only have until May 4 to vote. I know, I should have posted about it sooner.

So just because I can’t leave you without a few shots of at least one of my cutie-patooties, here are some of my Jack-Jack reading in bed.

These are her current favorite books – Board books by Sandra Boynton that she got from Santa last Christmas. And because she loves them, I love them too!
